I Love My Bones, So Stop Judging My Skinny Body
Born with a very active metabolism, she has learned to ignore what people say and to embrace her skinny body.
I was born to be skinny. I’m 26 years old, 40 kg and 160 cm. I do not have any problem with my health. I eat normally, exercise twice a week, and consume lots of vegetables and fruits.
What irritates me is when people say, “You look so sick.”
Some people in my family even asked, “How can you attract a boy if you are so skinny?”
Those words don’t drag me down anymore. I am super healthy, with a kickass immune system. When bad weather make some people prone to the flu, I almost never catch cold. I think I am attractive enough. I have dated a Harvard boy, a stockbroker, a businessman. At only 40 kg, I have strong muscles and bones. I can replace “Aqua gallon” on the dispenser.
So newsflash, people: some of us were born with high metabolism. Whatever we eat, our body will burn it into energy quickly.
The reason I write this is because I want to stand up for all the skinny girls who have similar experience like mine. People think a skinny girl is anorexic, but we are just naturally skinny. We can enjoy any food and never have a problem with weight.
There was a time, however, when I felt insecure, because everyone told me that I was too skinny. They recommended this and that pill to help me gain weight. I took some of those pills, which gave problems to my system. Some people pushed me to eat a lot, and it made it hard for me to enjoy the food. The harder they pushed me to eat, the harder for me to swallow my food. Sometimes I threw up.
I became really sick, when I heeded to people claiming to be helping me. In fact, they were not helping me at all. They gave me problems, so I stop listening to what people said about my body. If other girls are proud with their curve, why shouldn’t I love my bones?
I am happy with my skinny body. I am small, but I have a big spirit inside. I want to say to every girl out there. If you want to change yourself, do it for yourself not for others. Your body is your authority. Flat, fat, curvy, you are still beautiful. Just stay healthy.
The media are busy creating the definition of the “perfect body” and a lot of people try will try to make you doubt yourselves. Don’t let them. They don’t know anything about you. They will say you are ugly, but you’re not ugly at all. Remember, the body is just a casing; the personality is everything.
So if someone tells you, “Eat some meat! You look sick,” just give them your sweetest smile and blow it off. And if someone tells you they envy your body, just thank them. I hope with all my heart that one day people will stop judging and spread positivity instead.
